Maui participants recently joined forces in the Visitor Industry Charity Walk to raise funds for vital non-profit organizations around the county. Their goal was to raise a million, but they exceeded that figure with a total of $1,033,383. These wonderful participants included business representatives, visitor industry workers, non-profit workers and others, all working together to support organizations that help our community thrive.

Some began fundraising efforts months before the event by every means you can imagine. They threw benefit luaus, chili and stew cook-offs, concerts, golf tournaments, kick-ball tournaments, car washes, bake sales, dunking booths and even tug-of-war competitions, all while collecting pledges from like-minded people who wanted to help.

Many congratulations go to everyone who contributed, with extra gratitude for our very own Maui real estate agent Mitch Mitchell, who won 1st Place for Individual Raising the Most Funds with a grand total of $31,175 for Hale Makua Health Services, where Mitch is on the Board of Directors.

The Grand Wailea Resort & Spa came in as the property bringing in the most funds with $48,281. Bank of Hawaii was the business that raised the most with $15,750. The non-profit bringing in the most funds was West Side Hoops with $91,730. The restaurant that brought in the most funds, for the fourth year in a row, was the Tri-Star Restaurant Group with a total of $6,400. Also worth celebrating was Maui Condo & Home Vacations as the property who brought in the most funds per capita, with $590 raised per employee.

Organized by The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association the walk was held on May 14th, when no less than 2,595 walkers gathered at the War Memorial Soccer Field to share in a lively morning of great food, exercise, prizes and entertainment. Maui’s event generated $974,773, and the prior events on Molokai and Lanai raised $40,356 and $18,254, respectively, bringing us to that grand total of $1,033,383.

This is a triumphant time for all three islands of Maui County, and all those wonderful individuals who gave their time, money and effort to raise these funds. You can learn more about our remarkable agents on our West Maui real estate agents page. Mahalo!
