Thinking about raising a family on Maui, or moving your existing family for a healthy, active lifestyle in a cleaner environment? Mountains of scientific literature highlight how sensitive children are to their environment, including the quality of their air, water and food, among other things. If you make healthy decisions, you can enjoy all of the above on Maui. To top it off, based on a recent report from WalletHub, Hawaii provides even more benefits for children.

The report revealed that out of all 50 states, Hawaii ranked No. 6 in terms of good health care for children, leaving the other 44 states behind. This may come as a surprise to a lot of folks, especially considering how many misconceptions surround the Aloha State. It’s true that out of all the states in the nation, Hawaii is the most unusual, and so it naturally follows that a lot of surprising assumptions are made about it. The report on children’s health care should provide some clarity on the topic.

WalletHub considered 28 criteria that influenced quality, cost and access to children’s health care. Using this information, they were able to rank all the states in the nation, and the District of Columbia. The researchers also gathered data to show how many children from age 0 to age 17 were healthy in each of the states. Another criteria was the number of pediatricians and family doctors per capita.

Interestingly, Hawaii was No. 1 when it came to the lowest number of unaffordable medical bills for children. In terms of children’s access to health care, Hawaii ranked No. 4. These rankings are absolutely fantastic. Hawaii only lagged in terms of overweight children between 10 and 17 years old, where it came up in 29th place. It’s true, Hawaii folks like to eat. But considering how much of the population is Asian and Pacific Islander, it wouldn’t be surprising if the cause was directly related to increasing consumption of processed/Western foods, which these ethnic groups aren’t adapted to eat.

Top rankings went to Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut, in that order, while bottom rankings went to Arizona, Mississippi and Nevada. Maybe this information can help you deliberate on the states where you might want to buy a home. Of course, this is just one of many factors to consider when deciding where to settle down. If you want to buy real estate on Maui, chances are you’ve fallen in love with the island. You can simply add this good news to your list of reasons to come here or stay here permanently.
