Winter has come to the islands of Hawaii and with it means it is that special time of the year that we have all been waiting for. Yes, that’s right! It’s whale season on Maui and we couldn’t be more excited. If you and your family or loved ones are searching for the best ways to watch the whales on Maui then read on because we have some classic tips for you.

With so many things to do on Maui, it goes without saying that one of the perks of living in Hawaii has to be whale watching. There is a list of ways to see these majestic creatures, so here are a few suggestions for how to get the most out of your next whale watching experience.

When Are The Humpback Whales In Hawaii?
Although it is possible to see them a little before and after, the official whale season in Maui is December 15th through May 15th. There is a peak season of January to March where you will see a lot more frequent activity.

Hawaii is the winter breeding area of these majestic creatures, This is the only state in the US where they mate, calve and nurse their young — most likely due to the warm waters, lack of natural predators and great underwater visibility.

Book A Boat Tour
There are two Maui harbors that host an array of boat tours that include dolphin and whale watching excursions. Whether you have settled in West Maui or another luxury home for sale on the island, you will be near two great harbors equipped with plenty of activity tour companies to choose from. Both the Maalaea Harbor near Kihei and the Lahaina Harbor are great spots to explore and book a tour for your next whale outing. Some are adventurous while others are more educational so do your homework and make sure to choose the trip that will best suit you and your needs.

Spend Time By The Water
While being on a boat is a great way to get up close and personal with these wild water animals, you don’t necessarily have to be on a boat to see the whales. Most of these whales spend time close to the shoreline so just spend some time on the beach or walking near the water and keep your eyes peeled for the whales. Make sure your camera is charged too!

And if you rather catch a glimpse of our favorite finned friends without venturing from your piece of paradise, we have a list of oceanfront homes for sale that can make that more than a reality.
